Introspection and Due Diligence, 16 April 2010
M-W Entry: due diligence
1 : the care that a reasonable person exercises under the circumstances to avoid harm to other persons or their property
2 : research and analysis of a company or organization done in preparation for a business transaction (as a corporate merger or purchase of securities)
Wiki Definition
- Due Diligence is a term used for a number of concepts involving either the performance of an investigation of a business or person prior to signing of a contract, or the performance of an act with a certain standard of care.
- It can be a legal obligation, but the term will more commonly apply to voluntary investigations.
- A common example of due diligence in various industries is the process through which a potential acquirer evaluates a target company or its assets for acquisition.
M-W Entry: introspection
: a reflective looking inward : an examination of one's own thoughts and feelings
Wiki Definition
- Introspection is the self-observation and reporting of conscious inner thoughts, desires and sensations. It is a conscious mental and usually purposive process relying on thinking, reasoning, and examining one's own thoughts, feelings, and, in more spiritual cases, one's soul.
- It can also be called contemplation of one's self, and is contrasted with extrospection, the observation of things external to one's self.
- Introspection may be used synonymously with self-reflection and used in a similar way.

Introspection is happening for some time; so strongly that it made me go on Facebook Vipassana. Then my job brought me a due diligence project to work on (that's all you are going to hear about it!). Now you see where this is going because you have suffered through my earlier expositions. Right On my friend!
However, this over-worked vrishabha has to plod along today and come back to this at leisure. Till then...

(5 days later)
Due Diligence and Introspection. Two processes of inspection. Both are voluntary. Both are thorough/in-depth. Both are purposeful. Both examine facts and both reason. Both gather information, analyze and offer a Go/No Go recommendation. What to do with it? The choice is yours.
Both require focus (one-pointedness), objectivity (detachment) and integrity (sincerity) to be a success - if we know how to measure it that is! There is no place for prejudices, personal likes/dislikes or judgements.
Due diligence was easy. I could do all of the above and move on to the next project. Introspection is not ending. I am just rummaging through sacks of information and processing it over and over. Some new seemingly interesting info is found, gets chewed over and previous results are modified. Then back to the sack. I have been thinking about it. Why is there no end in sight? Have I lost all the objectivity about it? Am I just picking rags from the sack and coloring them bright to make them attractive/important? Am I so involved in this process because it makes me the center of attention that I don't want it to end? After all, I am the 'Metamorphosis of Narcissus' according to a recent FB quiz!
I don't know but I do know one thing. I need to end this note soon because the queue is getting restless. My brain is loaded with sticky thoughts and they've started pushing each other so that they can come out fast. Sea of cerebral fluid surging. Buddha by Deepak Chopra, Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, Encounters w/ things and Interactions w/ people, A bus ride, Dalai Lama etc etc.
So, we choose to end this here.
Coming soon to theaters...
